Will Donald Trump’s Facebook account be restored? Here’s what reports are saying

SAN FRANCISCO: Former US President Donald Trump reportedly wants to regain control of his powerful social media accounts in order to return to the White House.

The Trump campaign has formally petitioned Facebook parent company Meta to unblock accounts that were locked two years ago following the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots. NBC News reports.

In a letter to Meta, the Trump campaign wrote, according to a copy seen by NBC News:

But the campaign did not threaten lawsuits.

Instead, it emphasized the importance of free speech and petitioned Meta for a “meeting to discuss President Trump’s speedy return to the platform.”

However, a spokesperson for Meta said the company “will follow the process we have established and will announce a decision in the coming weeks,” NBC News reported.

On January 7th, Facebook finally decided to ban Trump on a limited basis, which is due to be reviewed in two years.

Twitter had planned a permanent ban, but on Nov. 19, 2022, new owner Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account, then criticized the company’s previous leadership for the ban.
