WhatsApp rolling out voice status updates on Android beta

SAN FRANCISCO: Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new “voice status update” feature in Android beta. This will allow users to share voice memos via status updates.

Beta testers can now share voice notes as status updates by accessing a new feature within the text status section, reports WABetaInfo.

The platform also gives users more control over their voice recordings by offering the ability to discard recordings before sharing.

The maximum recording time for voice memos is 30 seconds. To hear the voice memos shared via status, the user needs to update his WhatsApp version.

Voice notes shared as status updates are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that only people you choose in your privacy settings can hear them.

Like images and videos, voice memos shared via status disappear after 24 hours.

Additionally, users can also delete voice memos for everyone after posting them as status updates.

According to reports, the new feature will roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
