SAN FRANCISCO: Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has hinted that the Fortnite game will return to iOS in 2023. This comes almost three years after the best-selling game was removed from the App Store for violating platform guidelines.
In a New Year’s tweet, Sweeney wrote, “Next year on iOS!”
The game was removed from the App Store in August 2020 after Epic Games added a direct payment option to Fortnite that circumvented Apple’s in-app purchase system and violated App Store guidelines.
The iPhone maker eventually banned Fortnite from the App Store, directly blaming Epic for violating the rules.
“Epic Games has taken the unfortunate step of violating App Store guidelines that apply equally to all developers and are designed to keep the store safe for users. The Fortnite app has been removed from the store,” Apple said. statement.
“Epic has enabled features in apps that have not been reviewed or approved by Apple,” it added.
Fortnite’s removal from the App Store has prompted Epic Games to file a lawsuit against the tech giant.
“Three years later, both Epic Games and Apple are facing a court order handed down in September 2021 requiring Apple to allow developers to add in-app links to external websites. We are appealing the decision,” the report said.
