Google Maps’ navigation feature on Wear OS now works without phone

SAN FRANCISCO: Technology giant Google has announced that Google Maps, the web mapping platform for Wear OS, now supports turn-by-turn navigation features on Long Term Evolution (LTE) watches without the need for a phone. Announced.

If you have an LTE-enabled watch or your watch is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi, you can now enjoy maps on your wrist.

If the user allows location on the phone, navigation works on the watch even when the phone is locked.

“This is especially helpful if you’ve misplaced your phone for a run or ride but want to make a detour or need help finding your way home,” the company says.

Meanwhile, last August, the company announced that the Google Maps application for Wear OS would support offline navigation.

This change will allow navigation to continue even if the user misplaces their mobile phone.
