Apple has shut down popular weather app Dark Sky, which it acquired in April 2020. The Dark Sky API and website will continue to work until March 31st of this year. The app is currently out of service for all users. Apple built most of its functionality into the Weather app that came pre-installed on his iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Dark Sky forecast technology has been enhanced and integrated into the all-new Apple Weather forecast. While announcing the removal of the Dark Sky weather app from the Apple Store, the company said: .”
As a reminder, Dark Sky stated in an official blog post last June that the app will no longer be available after December 31, 2022.
In introducing WeatherKit, Apple said: iPadOS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, watchOS 9 using platform-specific Swift APIs, and other platforms using REST APIs. ”
It also states that WeatherKit uses the all-new Apple Weather service. This is a cutting edge global weather forecast that provides all the data users need to provide timely, hyper-local weather information to the app. It also makes available information about current weather conditions and 10-day hourly forecasts for temperature, precipitation, wind, UV index, and more. Not only that, users can also benefit from minute-by-minute precipitation for the next hour, and severe weather alerts are available for some areas.
