Apple In Talks With India To Assemble iPads In The Country: Report

Apple has been assembling iPhones in India for the past few years, and now it looks like it is about to start producing its iPad lineup in India. The Cupertino, Calif.-based tech giant is in talks with Indian authorities to identify the location of his iPad manufacturing in the country, media reported.

This is because relations between the US and China have soured and the latter’s Covid restrictions that have disrupted supply chains have gone to zero. Foxconn, Apple’s largest contract manufacturer, employs approximately 2 million people at the world’s largest iPhone factory in Zhengzhou, China.

India is exploring options to bring some of Apple’s iPad production from China to the country, according to a CNBC report citing two sources close to the Indian government. The tech giant is said to be in ongoing discussions with authorities. No specific plans have been made, but the effort, if successful, would expand his Apple footprint in the country, the report added.

If you recall, Apple announced earlier this year that it had already started assembling this year’s iPhone 14 at its factory in the southern part of the country. Apple also manufactures some older iPhone models in the country.

Meanwhile, in early November, Telecommunications and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India would acquire its largest iPhone manufacturing plant in Hosur, Bengaluru. The Hosur iPhone manufacturing division will employ approximately 60,000 people. Apple has reportedly outsourced manufacturing of the iPhone housing to Tata Electronics, which has a factory in Hosur.

It follows a report by news agency Reuters that iPhone supplier Foxconn plans to at least quadruple its production capacity in India over the next two years. The Indian Apple iPhone models are manufactured by his three manufacturing partners: Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron.

“Apple’s iPhones are now manufactured in India, and India’s largest factory is being built in Hosur, near Bengaluru. A single factory employs 60,000 people. The tribe’s sisters are trained to make Apple iPhones,” Vaishnaw reportedly told news agency PTI.
